Coach's Code of Conduct

As a coach for this program, your influence on these young athletes extends far beyond the diamond. You are expected to lead by example, prioritize player development over short-term outcomes, and maintain a high standard of personal integrity. By coaching in this program, you agree to the following commitments:

1. Player Development & Safety

• Safety First: Prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of every player above all else. This includes strictly adhering to pitch count safety guidelines and monitoring players for injuries or exhaustion.

• The Power of Teaching: Focus on constructive instruction. Praise effort and execution, and treat mistakes as teaching moments rather than opportunities for public criticism.

• Fairness in Development: While travel baseball is competitive, every player on the roster deserves your time, investment, and instruction during practices to help them reach their potential.

2. Professionalism & Sportsmanship

• Umpire Relations: Model the exact behavior you expect from your players. Accept umpire decisions with dignity. If a rule clarification is needed, address the umpire calmly, professionally, and away from the players whenever possible.

• Respect for the Opponent: Treat opposing coaches, players, and fans with respect. Do not run up scores unnecessarily, mock opponents, or engage in negative gamesmanship.

• Control the Dugout: Maintain total control over your dugout. Do not tolerate negative chatter, gear-throwing, or poor sportsmanship from your players or assistant coaches.

3. Communication & Parent Relations

• Clear Expectations: Communicate team schedules, logistics, and expectations clearly and proactively to parents, including expected general playing time rules for pool play vs bracket play.  

• The "24-Hour Rule": Establish and respect a 24-hour cooling-off period before discussing playing time, strategy, or game situations with parents, except in matters of safety.

• Confidentiality: Handle player and parent issues privately. Never criticize a player or parent in front of other team members or families.

The Role Model Standard:

Remember that the eyes of 11 to 14 young athletes are constantly on you. Your language, body language, and emotional control under pressure will dictate how your players respond to adversity.

Accountability & Review

Coaches are representatives of the organization. Violations of this code—including abusive language, physical misconduct, or behavior that discredits the program—will be reviewed by the board and may result in:

1. First Offense:  A formal warning and review of coaching conduct.

2. Second Offense:  Suspension from coaching duties for a specified number of games.

3. Third Offense:  Immediate termination of coaching status within the program.
